VLC 2.0 Beta (1.9.0) makes VLC more Kodi-like. It now connects to SMB, NFS, FTP, and SFTP shares, includes favorites, supports playlists, rewritten controls, history, notification, an improved Android TV UI and the option to use the Android TV UI on all devices.

VLC on Android 2.0.0 Beta (1.9.0)

2.0 introduces a large number of features, notably network disk browsing (Windows shares, UPnP, NFS, FTP, SFTP...), favorite folders and URLs, video playlists, rewritten notifications and control and a rewritten history.

It is also a merge of Android TV and Android versions, so that every device can optionally get the Android TV interface. The TV interface has been improved quite a bit too.

Finally, it should be faster to decode and playback all video types.

I wonder if it will allow you to (chrome)cast to your android tv from your phone?

I'll try this out when I get off work, sounds sweet!

I have a Shield TV and I'm hoping this new version of VLC will allow me to watch my HDHomeRun recording live from UnRAID. Currently do it through Kodi but it's not perfect.

Tried it but didn't see anywhere to connect to my NFS server.
When I went to the local network it auto populated a few SMB shares from PCs on my network, but no where to input my NFS server.

I tried it. Love the new VLC. If you join their beta programme you get the betas automatically through the play store.

How can I get this installed on a Shield TV?

Where do you go to load a URL? It looks just the same as it did before with nothing extra.
