Sony xbr65x930c + Native Netflix Android TV app: No 5.1 Audio option?

by reddit_eli

I dont get the 5.1 tag for any tv/movies when using the native netflix android tv app from my new Sony xbr65x930c. All apps + tv are up to date.

Arent the built in speakers suppose to be 5.1?

When i use my ps3 netflix app, I can see movies with the 5.1 audio tag.

I dont have any surround sound system hooked up to the tv.

Is this known issue? limitation? setting change needed?

Front center. Left front. Right front. Left rear. Right rear. Bass.

Do you really believe that configuration is possible inside your TV?

I'm not seeing anywhere that this has built in 5.1 surround sound. Now I'm a Shield TV owner, and with the VSX-830-K I believe (It's a Pioneer with HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0) I have 5.1 surround sound with netflix and get the 5.1 logo. I've not really seen a TV with 5.1 surround sound from front speakers, it's just not possible really. And more than likely, that's why you're not seeing the 5.1 surround sound tag.

You need surround sound speakers to get 5.1. Not sure what you saw with your PS4.

LOL. You think you're TV came with 5 speakers and a subwoofer built it? It didn't.

Listen, your TV is basically a monitor. Yeah, it has speakers but no serious human is going to use them. Go on Amazon and find yourself a nice little soundbar. Sony didn't really focus on audio when they built that TV, they purposely chose to go for a nice compact size in a trade off for great sound. They make some nice companion audio products for that TV and I suggest you check them out.
