Why is Google making it so hard to get Android TV?

by LittleOnionThatCould

In Canada anyway... They have completely removed the Nexus Player from Canada. The only other option is the Nvidia Shield TV but that's also very hard to find here. Roku and Apple TV are everywhere. Does Google just not care?

The Shield TV can also be ordered in Canada through Memory Express and NCIX. But it's a bit pricier than the Nexus Player, and there are only two android TV devices out there so it's not really widespread at all.

They might be phasing the Nexus Player out in favor of an updated device that may come out at Google I/O? Pure speculation on my part.

You can order the shield from nvidia. Just order it?

draggonguy

You can order the nvidia shield TV from newegg.ca, Memory Express or NCIX in Canada. I received mine from NCIX in December.

VoodooAndPowells

Just get the Shield TV. The Nexus isn't that great anyway.

Honestly, the Shield is the only one they need for Android TV. It's not only the only one being sold still, but it's the most capable and the most future proofed. I have the Nexus Player too, but unless you can get it around $50, it's not really worth it compared to the more powerful Shield TV.

I think the nexus player is discontinued.
