Alternative remotes for Nexus Player?

by Riptor_Co

Looking for a remote alternative for my forgotten by Google Nexus Player. Main reason is the main remote is stupid easy to unpair, by pressing 2 buttons directly adjacent to each other, so every time the remote gets stuck in a couch cushion or someone lays on it the remote unpairs and I have to go through the annoying process of using a phone to reconnect the remote.

The old amazon fire remote that used to work with the player is no longer available, and units off of ebay cost nearly as much as I paid for the device itself. Seeing as it's just bluetooth, I would have thought finding alternatives would be easy but after going through 3 pages of google results, I was wrong.

I just bought a Xiaomi Bluetooth TV remote for $10USD, looks like what the Nexus remote should have been.

Has not been delivered yet but it's promising as Xaiomis Bluetooth gamepad worked flawlessly with my Nexus player

Also uses a non typical button battery which kind of sucks, but eh as long as it lasts

For some reason this is a hard thing to find for a decent price. It might seem odd, but the best bet I've found is to buy a $10 bluetooth mini game controller (there's a few designs that are used by multiple brands). They will have a directional pad and at least four buttons, and normally have a "presenter" mode so you can hold it like a normal remote.

It's not perfect, but it's the best I could find without spending more than $30.

If you can wait til the end of May then you might see if a new Nexus Player is announced at Google I/O and see what type of remote is offered with it.

There's a remote app you can download for your phone. It connects through wifi and works easily for me.

I'm using this [Harmony Smart Control] ( http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Control-Smartphone-Simple/dp/B00BQ5RYI4/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1457972135&sr=1-8&keywords=logitech+harmony ) Not going to lie its a little bit of a pain to setup, mainly because Logitech's software is a dumpster fire. But once its up and running it works flawless. Wife and 4 year old use it without problems.
