Hey all,
I have a Roku which allows me to use HBO Now on my big TV, but I've been wanting to get Max Go running as well (the Cinemax version of HBO Go). Unfortunately, Max Go doesn't have a dedicated app, but it is available from the Google Play Store for "Android Devices".
My thinking was I could buy an Android TV box and that would solve all my problems, so I bought a Mifanstech MXQ + touchpad controller and installed HBO Now and Max Go on it via the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, neither seems to work.
HBO Now appears to play, but even though the seconds are ticking by, the screen is black and there's no sound. Max Go just gives an outright error saying
Could not play content. Try again later.
After some Googling I tried deleting all my settings/cache and re-installing the apps, but no luck. The Max Go error supposedly is when you don't have a good enough signal on your phone, but my MXQ is connected via ethernet over a 150mbit fiber optic connection, so that's not the problem.
If anybody has any suggestions on how to fix this on my MXQ I'd appreciate it. Alternatively, if anyone can suggest a different Android TV box that definitely 100% supports Max Go that would be great as well. I was looking at the Nvidia Shield, but I get the impression you can't just install random apps from the Google Play Store, which is how you have to get Max Go, but it's hard to tell.
Thanks in advance.
First thing is the Mifanstech MXQ is not an "Android TV" box, it is an "Android" box.
This is because the NVIDIA Shield is running Android TV, not Android, and therefore only allows you to install apps designed to work Android TV (Controller vs touch support). Having said that, you can sideload any APK you can get your hands on very easily. There are lots of videos and articles describing how to do this.
HBO Now works on the Shield TV straight from the Play store. I don't have Cinemax or Max Go.
