Replacement Remote for the Nexus Player

by hylian122

The remote for my Nexus Player is terrible. It's never worked consistently, but has recently give up altogether even with fresh batteries, attempted resyncs, etc. Is this a problem with the remote's bluetooth transmitter or the Player's bluetooth hardware? Is there anything I can do to fix it (I've got root access), or should I just look for a replacement remote? If so, any suggestions? I think I've read the Fire TV remote works well, but I don't know if that can be purchased individually.

Have you tried the remote app on your phone? Whether it works as a long-term solution for you is a matter of preference, but it's what I always use.

Have you tried calling support to get a replacement?

The shield remote is actually pretty great. The best part is that it has a rechargeable battery. The worst part is that the mic doesn't seem to work. If you can live with that though, I think it has only disconnected on me once in a few months, and I'm pretty sure it was because it was only because it was low on battery.

I'm using a logitech universal remote. It works really well and has the added benefit of controlling the speakers and TV. Cost me $130AUD

Hmm.. Same thing happened to me a week ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/4a7a3y/nexus_remote_wont_turn_on/

Conspiracy theory: Google is killing our remotes so we can upgrade to the new Nexus Player. :p

The fire TV stick remote works well. You lose voice control but you gain a few extra button s that are useful in kodi.
