Apparently the live channels app isn't installed on built in versions of Android TV on sharp TVs. I tried sideloading the live channels apk and it says app can not be installed. Is there any work around here?

Same issue with the Sony TV. I think the app only works with live network streams. HD Homerun....
There's probably an app similar to Live Channels but made by Sharp.
The app is there, look in settings at system apps. The problem is there are no apps installed providing a source and thus the app does not appear on the home screen.
On Sharp and Sony TVs it's built into the TV interface itself. In the TV settings there should be a sources page to import Android channel sources to the TV's built in EPG
To make a version of Android TV, implementers must include either their own "TV-app" or use the implementation Google made.
You also can't install the Live Channels app on Sony TV's, there was a point where you could but that basically ruined the TV (Tons of force closes everywhere until I removed it again).
Like on devices using Google's "Live Channels"-TV App installing an app with a live channel source will cause the app to "appear", on Sony TV installing such an app causes a new input source called "Streaming Channels" to appear.
What Sharp does I don't know, but I'll say it's very unlikely they don't have one, and a violation of their agreeement with Google if they do not have one.
I don't believe it actually shows up until you have an app installed that supports it. Install Pluto.TV and see if it pops up
