MLB.TV on Nvidea Shield TV

by Ashton1995

Has anyone tried using this app to watch live streams of MLB. I hear this year with the premium you get 60fps high quality streams. It's $109 for the year to watch any team you want and $84 to watch a single team.

My question is if the app actually works. I thought I had heard people complaining about this app in past years and I don't want to pay for it and have it constantly give me problems. Don't know if it would just be better to buy the package on cable instead. Just looking for any feedback if anyone on here has used or knows someone that has used it. Not too many reviews on the google play store.

I used it from July to Oct last year, was stable and solid for the most part. One time an update broke it, but a remove and re-install fixed it up.

So far this season (last 2 days) have been unreal (good) quality. The spring training stuff from the weekend though when it was free for all was terrible. I suppose cause of load they dialed the streams down some.

BTW if you or someone you know has T-Mobile you can get it free for the season. I found a guy via Reddit who signed in with my account and it worked. Just shot $10 his way and we're both happy.

I watched games yesterday using the app on Shield TV, works beautifully - but with a mouse. Picture was wonderful but I don't know how to tell if it is 60fps. It was very smooth though. Watched a whole Twins game, rain delay and all.

The app must be sideloaded to the shield. Also, I tried the plug in for Kodi and that was even better. Uses your name/pw and gives more of a tv interface I can use with the controller. It doesn't show news and such, but I read the news better on the phone than a tv anyway.

The native app does not need sideloaded and has worked wonderfully so far. Compared to the WDTV live I was using last year it is night and day in both picture quality and reliability. I have a follow up question however that I asked in another sub so I'll try here too:

Has anyone successfully used a VPN with androidTV to get around the local blackouts?

On the Shield sub there were a few suggestions to use a plugin for Plex or Kodi, but I would vastly prefer to use the native app if possible.

Thanks

I believe that the native app does not support 60fps. I have the plugin for kodi and its working great on the shield. You can select the feed and audio streams at the same time. The picture looks great.
