Kodi on AndroidTV

by alb1234

So, I just discovered that I can install Kodi (formerly XBMC) on my new Sony XBR-55X850D and via UPnP I can point to the libraries I've setup on my HTPC running Kodi which is attached to a non-smart TV.

I literally just discovered this a few minutes ago and noticed things aren't exactly the same on my Android TV as they are with my Kodi installation on my HTPC. For instance, I don't have any dvd cover art showing on my Android TV installation. Is this just how it is when connecting to a Kodi library via UPnP?

Is there anything I should know about running Kodi on AndroidTV? I actually built the HTPC for the other members of the house. I'm more of a 'launch a movie from Windows Explorer and go full screen in Windows Media Player Classic' kind of guy. Honestly, I haven't touched the Kodi installation downstairs on the HTPC in many, many months. I'm sure I am several versions behind.

What addons are recommended for Kodi installations on AndroidTV?

If I remember right, this is a limitation of using upnp, no metadata for the client. Use smb or an FTP or NFS if you want metadata.

I recommend the SPMC fork of Kodi for Android TV. Add Exodus and/or SALTS.

I have almost the same TV and I noticed it's significantly underpowered for a decent Kodi install. It'll run, it'll work, but not like you have on your computer.
