MKV Files crash somewhere in the movie

by bytesbits

I have a Sony KD-65XD8505, and I tried many different players (Standard/VLC/MX PLayer). But when I load a mkv file somewhere after an hour or 2 hour it just crashes. I have tried remuxing the mkv with MKVToolNix but it didn't help either. I am playing them through a usb3 hdd attached to the tv. Does anybody know how to fix this it's kinda driving me insane.

Have you tried plex or.kodi ?

I installed kodi, but i could not see my files in usb. I tried plex but it looked like it needed to stream files from the network. Btw these files work normal on my PC and WD Media player

Just a guess, but maybe try other sources for playing the movie?

Like stream over the network or play from the local TV storage?

An MKV is just a container format, holding video, audio, image or subtitle files in it. The video and audio files in different MKV files can be encoded with different codecs. For example, an MKV file with DTS audio can't be rendered on Oculus Video. Actually, there is a smarter way to get rid of the incompatibility issues quickly. Simply convert mkv to tv friendly format like MP4. You can try HandBrake. It's totally free and able to help you convert MKV to MP4 on your computer.

I don't use Handbrake cause it only let you add file one by one, you can can't use to batch convert videos. Another reason is that the speed is low and the output quality is compromised. If you're looking for ease of use and don't mind spending $27.96, you can try easefab video converter which I'm always using. It's fast and the output video quality is excellent.
