Android TV consistently loses connection with my W10 Plex server. It will play one episode of a show, then give me the classic error listed within. What is going on here!?

by moldymoosegoose

Error: Playback has stopped because the connection to the Plex Media Server has been lost. Please ensure the server is available and retry.

This happens CONSTANTLY and it's driving me to want to return my brand new Shield. I can watch episodes from Plex through my phone, I can watch them directly on my PC, I can Chromecast them. The issue is the app itself consistently losing connection. The Shield itself is on the internet and working just fine. I can literally load anything else i want.

My Plex drives are a USB drive connected to my router. I can also access these files when it says the server is down. The hard drive seems to work fine as well. I can't find the root cause of this.

Plex has been a pain in the ass for me as well, while I haven't had the problem your experiencing I've had more then enough to get sick of it and currently trying out kodi with the plexkodiconnect to access the content on the plex server.

How is your shield connected? wired?wireless? I notice sometimes my plex server on windows 10 goes to sleep and takes a moment or 2 to come alive again hitting retry usually works.

other things worth trying/checking is check for updates if none the uninstall the updates and try the older version

I have the same issue but it's very rare that I actually get it. I haven't even found out the cause, or a fix but I suspect that it's probably a Shield issue because I never had this issue on my Nexus Player or Chromecast.

Try an app called serenity on your Android TV or get kodi. These have been the only apps that have kept a steady connection with my Plex server (which I run off a macbook). Having said that it could also be that the Plex server software needs an update

Does this happen when the source files are stored on the Plex server's internal drive? I'm thinking either the USB drives or the router could be the culprit. Try pointing Plex to a folder on your server and playing content stored there.
