What's New?
New SHIELD Features
Enhancements
Marshmallow functionality and stability improvements such as external USB drive detection, FTP write access, HDMI-CEC, idle/sleep stability, SD card formatting, mouse support, and more.
Monthly Android security updates, including the March 2016 partner security bulletin.
My shield HUB disappeared from the launcher, but another restart fixed it. Giving everyone a heads up to not freak out.
Also, yes, chrome installs and seems to work, but no current way to have it show up in the launcher. YouTube works through chrome, and YES 60fps works if you request desktop site and then clunkily get it to play the video. Seems frequently like a video won't load this way because it can't go past the ad. I wonder if this is an end around Nvidia is letting us do because we all know Google sucks at updating their own android TV apps. Just goes to show how pissed off we should be at google/YouTube for this kind of sad lack of support. I feel like Nvidia is trying it's best to save the OS... Thanks guys for trying.
The right stick thing has been there for awhile. I guess they just didn't want to officially announce it until now.
I got it about 20 min ago. Nothing blew up when I installed it.
"Adds mouse navigation using SHIELD controller’s right stick. This feature is supported automatically in apps that don’t use the right stick. Example: Google Chrome browser (install from Google Play store using a PC)."
PRAISE THE GODS! We finally have this feature back.
Hope this fixes HDMI CEC on Vizio TVs
Does this fix the "HDMI services have stopped" error that can't be fixed without pulling the plug?
So, I tried to root my Shield TV on Saturday. I figured there wouldn't be an update for a while, and I was itching to use a couple root apps, so I went for it. Was going OK till I hit a tiny snag, and by then dinner was sounding pretty good, so I decided to make some food and by the time I was done that, it was getting late, and I decided to leave the rest of the rooting till Monday.
Fastforward to said Monday, and there's the update I figured wasn't coming. You're welcome.
Just got it here in Bangkok.
Woohoo to right stick being used as mouse! Makes using a file manager soooooo much more useful.
Got it!
Have only confirmed mouse support with Chrome soo far.
ES File Explorer doesn't work. Kodi/SPMC doesn't work.
Anyone try a file explorer that supports the new mouse feature yet?
Ahhh yess they fixed write access via FTP, can't wait to try it tonight
Cool, cool, cool
Good now Archos Media player should work again
No more language switching to Korean, finally!
Wonder if they fixed or added more support for using external storage as "expanded storage".
I have no issues using my G.Skill 64GB micro SD card as expanded storage. Process was super easy.
I recently got a Lexar 128GB USB 3 flash drive dirt cheap, so I figured I'd switch out the micro SD card and use the flash drive as expanded storage (they only let you expand one device at a time).
Shield recognizes the drive easy, but when I try to make it internal storage, just sits at "formatting USB drive..." for like 10 minutes and then fails.
Maybe if they've made some changes in this department I should try again.
Edit: Nope. Damn. Still errors trying to format the USB flash drive.
You can now disable sleep
So it can day dream forever
This is a great thing for something that should always be on
CEC Off coming in next update:
Great update thanks, everything feels quicker.
I was really, really, hoping for CEC-off when I read the notes however, only thing missing from being the ultimate product imho.
Back to dreaming :)
This is coming in our next update.
I have a question: can the android tv youtube app stream in 720p 60fps and 1080p 60fps? I tried to enable the advanced statistics to see if this was the case but fps are not specified :(
Instead of using the right stick for a mouse why don't they just re-enable the touchpad that's right in the middle of the freaking controller?
