Nvidia SHIELD Android TV - Netflix Defaults to 5.1 and lags

by traCkready

This is driving me crazy!!!! I have HDMI CEC/ HDMI Control turned off in all places on my TV and on the SHIELD Android TV. Even still, my SHIELD will operate normal in stereo mode until I use Netflix. As soon as I play an episode Netflix switches to 5.1, I will either get no sound or video stuttering. If I manually switch it back to stereo I am good to go... for the episode. Playing the next episode I will have to change this again. After this happens until I reboot the SHIELD attempting to control the volume on ATV yields a message to control my volume externally, system is in surround mode. I currently have my TV outputting to a pair of bookshelf speakers, all settings are stereo on the TV and SHIELD.

Any ideas? I have tried disabling Netflix and uninstalling updates, then enabled and re-updating.

Do you have the latest system update 3.1? This was fixed recently

I'm having the exact same issue. When I play Netflix from the shield it lags right away and the audio glitches. I go into the audio subtitles settings and switch the audio to non 5.1 and it works. It's also happening on a new TV I just boguht(Insignia 4k with built-in Roku) and my previous TV with the same shield TV software never had the issue. So I am not sure if it's the shield or the TV's software causing the issue. Also having an issue with the TV not turning on automatically when I press the shields remote button to turn on the system. Another issue I didn't have with the previous TV.

I think I found a solution.

Go down to the Nvidia shield TV settings, then over to HDMI. Scroll down and turn OFF "Surround sound pass-through".

That's what worked for me, at least.
