Thinking of buying a new TV

by fhansson

Hi! I'm looking to buy a new Philips TV. I've grown very attached to ambilight and can't watch TV without it. Looking for a 4k, 3 side ambilight but I want to ask if anyone knows about input lag? I've read about horrible 60 - 70 ms response and that's not acceptable. Are there any good websites to check for Philips TV input lag?

Thanks

bias lighting can be added to any TV, so just buy based on picture quality

I also don't see how this post is relevant to this sub

Philips has a reputation for locking down their Android TV based TVs.

I to love my ambilight TV. The input lag is down to the post processing on the TV. you can still use the Ambilight and turn on 'Game Mode' or the likes, this disables most of the input lag, but also gets rid of some of those philips nice processing! It's a difficult one and I'm kind of in the same position right now. I have a great philips TV, but it's a number of years old and has 3 Side Ambilight.

What i've been looking at currently is a recent kickstarter called 'DreamScreen'. Basically Ambilight you can add to any make / model / size of TV. Hook the HDMI to this DreamScreen and then into the TV. They claim zero lag, so you could get a different TV with better input lag, add the Ambilight. It's what i'm looking at doing. Though it's worth noting, you might want a good AVR as well. Plug all your HDMI devices into your AVR and then only on HDMI cable into the TV that would interface with your DreamScreen. That way all devices benifit from it.

For me, I'm looking at more of a 'dumb tv' and add the smarts. I have an Nvidia shield that's going to be better than any AndroidTV interface built into these TV's, just from a pure Spec and Update Speed wise. AFAIK, all Philips TV with Android TV are shipping with AndroidTV 5.1.1 with 6.0.1 coming 'later this year'. Umm... why so long??? Right?

Hi, thanks for the replies! I talked to Philips and researched some more, found one with 30 ms which is fine since I only really play single player Wii U games.
