I'm really hoping for a Nexus player refresh. Doesn't need to be much more than the Nexus player currently is tho. Native DVR/tuner might be a big hit with the general public. Wouldn't mean much for me tho.
If they really want to grab the market by the horns, they should open up Google cast to other platforms. If the ps3 and Xbox and smart TVs had casting ability, Roku, fire TV, and apple TV would be nearly irrelevant. Android TV already has lots of big name content providers with cast enabled apps. Let casting be the magic bridge for all content providers and then OEMs never have to worry about content.
Hopefully there will be a way to turn live channels on YouTube into the live channels on Android TV. Twitch Channels would be pretty cool too.
Nexus player already has chromecast built in (and nvidia shield I'd suspect)
Really these devices just needed slightly better hardware (tv tuner + GB ethernet) and they would have dominated...
I leave my nexus player to watch tv, and use my tv usb port to watch movies as nexus wifi doesnt play well
I wish they had put this much development into the platform when it debuted. This might be the tipping point we need for Android TV to finally become mainstream.
