nVidia Shield good for MAME roms and playing video files?

I want to buy something that is close to complete:

  • Can play all the common video files eg. mkv
  • Can play MAME roms without lag
  • Can connect to a share/network and stream video
  • Can do YouTube

It seems many cheap android boxes and an Rpi setup can do most of this, but when it comes to some videos and big games, it lags.

Plays every MAME ROM I've thrown at it. I use Kodi for MKV viewing over NFS and SMB shares. Works flawlessly also.

I use it for this all the time. The shield has handled everything I have tried to do with it

The only issue with MAME is that, as far as I know, the only Android version of MAME available is based on a very old MAME version (.139 I believe). This means you'll have to make sure you have the corresponding romset, and that more recent additions (e.g. Raiden II!) will not work.

Yep, and it has a MAME app that you can run natively. And for Youtube, this is honestly the best system to watch it on with 4k Youtube support. And of course, Gaming is what this box was built for with GameStream.

roms are the only thing I havent tried, I use Kodi as my main player for shared movies because the codecs always seem to work.
