I recently received a promotion at work that gave me a free phone & internet, so me and my wife decided to try going without cable.
I thoroughly enjoy the box, however I'm not able to do some of the customizing I'd like to do. In particular:
Cant root the device
Cant install a sixaxis controller
Does anyone have any experience in these devices that could help me out?

Your box appears to use a snapdragon 905 CPU which should be rootable via this method , like others have said this isn't a true Android TV device so if you have any further questions please try using the following sites:
They are much better equiped to answer questions on generic boxes.
AFAIK PS3 controllers work if wired so if you can't root you could always use that or one of the several third party controllers.
You might be looking for a Mi Box which will be a "True" Android TV box. That's probably the replacement Nexus Player.
This may be the wrong sub to ask. Everybody here hates that box.
