Nvidia Shield root vs non root opinions.

by Emx333

Hey, I am thinking of rooting my shield pro but I don't know if it's really worth it. All I can think of as a pro is ad blocker. I like the default launcher and the Android TV os and don't see any other benefits. Can anyone tell me any other benefits? Thanks.

I used to unlock, root and rom every Android device I owned. The nexus 5 and the shield are the first devices I just...have had no desire to do so.

Rooted mine right away, only used ad blocker which I turned off most of the time because I didn't need it and it messed with hulu

I think you can install sixaxis controller to use a ps3 controller via Bluetooth but I don't really see the point, the shield controller is better supported and the ps3 controller will work if wired anyways.

There's a custom ROM that turns the OS into traditional android, not sure how useful that would be either. A port of Remix OS would be kinda nice but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Can you change the launcher with a root on marshmallow? Like Kodi?

I rooted to force DTS audio output (my TV is capable but doesn't report it), and Xposed module to change the dpi of certain apps (like Dolphin browser, which actually makes it usable).
