I might buy one if it's a big upgrade over the original. It likely won't replace my brand new Shield TV, but I could give my 1st-gen NP to someone that's never experienced Android TV.

Could be that Asus sees a market opportunity for a low cost Android TV box and is releasing an updated design to stay in the game. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find out that it's no longer called the "Nexus Player" either.

I can't wait for more Android TV devices to hit the market and I hope they are good too. I bought an Nvidia Shield and while I love the thing I don't want to buy 3 more at $180 or whatever they are to kit out the rest of the TV's in my house. Hoping this or the upcoming Xioami model hits it out of the park.
Is it possible that the new Asus Nexus Player is in this clip about the Zenbo? http://www.engadget.com/2016/06/02/asus-zenbo-hands-on/ 32 seconds in the Zenbo turns on the TV to an Android TV interface.

If I read that correctly, they're making wifi connectivity worse. Surely I'm not the only one who has wifi issues so I can't imagine that weakening the radios will help any.

Frankly I haven't had a problem with wifi. I have my Fingers crossed for 4k and 128gb internal storage
I will buy 5 of these at launch just in case they are discontinued again. My only regret is buying just one Nexus Player.
