My TV's IR remote controls my nexus player. What dark magic is this?

by sivadneb

I know the nexus player doesn't have IR support, and even still I never set it up w/ my TV's remote. My best guess is that there's some protocol over HDMI that my TV speaks and the Nexus Player understands. Has anyone experienced this?

It's nice b/c now I can use just one remote (no switching back and forth to change volume). Seems to have a slight lag in response time, but otherwise it's a nice feature!

[edit] Apparently this is called HDMI-CEC

HDMI CEC. The Nexus Player home button will also turn on your TV.

Yes this is HDMI cec. What brand is the TV?

If you really want to blow your mind, try turning the TV off and casting to the Nexus Player. Should turn the TV on and switch to the correct input automatically.

I love this feature. I bought a cheap ass 4k TV and the IR remote is blazing fast on the shield.
