I have an enormous collection of music on my NAS, like 8,000 albums. Most of them are tagged well. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good playback interface?

The stock Kodi install comes with a decent music player and keeps track of your library etc. Are you looking for an add-on that provides something more?
Kodi is a music player
I'd set up a server with Plex and use the Plex app. Otherwise use VLC which was recently updated with more network features.

What I would do is upload the batch to Google Play Music and use the app from the Shield instead of using Kodi.
