The Shield supports Vulkan. Doom supports Vulkan. Why can't we have Doom?

It's disappointing considering Nvidia launched Vulkan using Doom. It seems like they've given up on Android.

It seems like they've given up on Android.

Like who has given up on Android?

I think you're expecting a bit too much out of something you know nothing about.

Vulkan helps but it doesn't mean instantaneous porting to Android. In a perfect world you'd code something once and hit a button to release it on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. We're not to that point. Having consoles on the same architecture as PCs was a huge step, and Vulkan is another huge step. The Shield is still on ARM.

Best thing to do right now is game streaming from a rig that can actually handle the processing.

Ill take wut is gamestream for $300

Vulkan is only part of the stack. Lots of other code would have to be ported. The shield is powerful, but my guess is that a full port of doom would not run great on it either.

Engineers have yet to put a square peg into a round hole. It seems like they've given up on round holes.

It is a great example of how vulkan is beneficial to gaming. It is true vulkan is a multi platform api that supports android, linux and windows. The game engine doom 2016 uses does not support linux or android. UE4 is a great example of how games for windows simply need recompiled for android. Apparently the ease of this is even greater if a version compiled for linux is in existence first. So the game engine, api and publisher used as well as other factors will affect the portability of your game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id_Tech_6
