Be Careful: Factory Sealed new Nvidia Shield Pro was obviously a resealed Open Box item & Damaged! Shipped from Amazon.

by h3p

So I got my new Nvidia Shield Pro in the mail today from Amazon. I drove home from work, extremely excited. Opened up the amazon box. Nvidia Shield box was all Nvidia factory sealed. Peal that open. And... the Nvidia Shield Pro is all scratched.. with the sealant tape over all the shiny parts (wow). That pisses me off. Then all of the cords except for the USB cable are unraveled with the paper wraps to them broken (whatever, but again, obviously not NEW). Then I pull the power adapter out and the pins that the adapter prongs snap over are all yanked, scratched and twisted, one broken in half.

I immediately jumped on amazon and got the return labels sorted out and boxed it back up. I didn't take any photos sorry. This is my first bad experience with Nvidia (besides like a driver issue here or there). I'm still really excited about getting a NEW Nvidia Shield Pro.

Just hope no one else has this issue. I tweeted Nvidia about it too.

I ordered a NEW Unit. I paid for a NEW Unit. Ordered from the main Amazon store (not some side store). I either got a half-assed refurbished unit or an open box item that had been returned that they didn't bother to check and just resealed to sell as new. In any case, not cool.

Edit: as people are pointing out, probably Amazon's fault. I wasn't aware that they had access to NVidia's seals for packaging. Also someone else mentioned ways to peel back seals to swap something out and ship it back to Amazon. So maybe that happened too. I posted this out of being really annoyed at the time. My new unit is on the way. Hopefully this one is actually new!

Edit edit: New one arrived today. All is working well. Waiting on software updates to dive into it! SO EXCITED

I would say this is Amazon's fault first being the seller vs. NVidia the distributor, pretty sure Amazon does this frequently. They even offer repacking service to sellers.

FWIW - it's unlikely nVidia has anything to do with this.

This is a /r/amazon problem. "Amazon sold me used shit"

Amazon should have a return policy if you get a lemon like that. Just return it and get your money back. You can also go to a Best Buy and get one.

You said 'shipped by Amazon' but who was the seller? Was that Amazon too?

Good for you for sending it back though. When people cave and just accept these things it encourages them.

Ha.Its Amazon's fault this. When I bought mine everything was sealed except I had a little surprise.

When I went to insert my 64gb mem card, there was already one in it(32gb).

So I kept it,a little present from Amazon 😀

Luckily you bought from Amazon, so a return should be a decent experience. I bought mine from Amazon and it was flawless. I think yours was a fluke case and you shouldn't be mad at NVIDIA. I think it was either a 3rd-party seller or someone fooled Amazon into accepting a refurb back as a new. FWIW, I don't remember any "green" seals on mine, just clear stickers holding the box together. Maybe they only use the green sticker for refurbs.

I ordered one and it arrived DOA. Wouldn't power on at all.
