Is the fire tv a good investment for kodi streaming?

I dont really have the budget for a nvidia shield, so is the fire tv the next best thing.

You want a Nexus player, or if you can wait a bit, get the xiaomi Android tv box when it comes out. It will have the ability to stream and play 4k tv, which the Nexus player and fire tv cannot do.

It's not an investment, but I will say a FireTV Stick is a good purchase for Kodi purposes. It's just not that great at anything else, so you get what you pay for. The new Roku Streaming Stick would probably be a smarter purchase for a sub-$50 budget.

The "next best thing" to the Shield TV would probably be the ADT-1, followed by the Nexus Player, and neither of those two devices are easily attainable. There will be a Xiaomi box released later this year to take over the price point of the discontinued Nexus Player. These are all products that operate on the Android TV platform.

For something in the $100-$140 range and not an Android TV product, a FireTV Box or a Roku would be worth looking into. Although I'd probably rather nudge you into the $180 Shield TV for an extra $40 instead of the gaming FireTV box.

Wait for the Xiaomi android tv. It will provably be around 90$

Fire TV is better than the Nexus Player in almost every way. What's missing is the Android TV software and full Google casting ability. What's bad about the Fire TV is Amazon's trying to control how the device is used. This however only affects advanced users that like to tinker. The latest Fire TV is capable of 4K.

If it was me...I'd save up abit more if you can and get the Shield,it really is fantastic.

Or go with the Fire TV 2,its great with Kodi.Having said that if you could pick up a Nexus player cheap, even 2nd hand they are great for Kodi aswell
