Question about PS Vue

by bvh2015

I noticed it's coming to Android mobile this week. I was considering switching out my Fire TV and buying a Nvidia Shield TV. Is Android TV and mobile apps two different things, or will I be able to sideload the mobile app and use it on my Shield?

Yes, Android TV and Android are two different platforms, but you can sideload Android apps to Android TV devices. The problem is input methods, so you'll need something like a mouse connected to your Android TV device to navigate an app that was designed for touchscreens.

Ideally, you want the devs of the app to make it compatible with the Android TV UI and make it visible in the Play Store app on your Android TV device for installation. Although it could come with Chromecast support, so you'd just use your Android device to tell the Shield TV where to stream the video.

It is coming with Google Cast support, so you will be able to push video streams to the Shield, but it won't have a native app at launch. Hopefully soon. You could side load and use the touchpad on the controller to navigate around the app as well in the meantime.

Edit: Right stick, not touchpad.

Since they already have the fire TV app working I would expect the Android mobile app to be crippled as to not even launch on Android TV. They could have come to Android TV long ago If they had any intention of doing so. They many surprise me though.

Sony is inputting Android TV into their Smart TVs, I dont understand why they would skip out on a platform that they've already aligned themselves with in other areas.
