Shield owners: What do you do with Plex? Or what do you use it for?

by Pickle_Jr

I get that it takes videos and such from your PC and plays them on the device that has Plex installed. But how many people have TV shows and such saved on their PC? Or is there something I'm missing?

A lot of people. Ever hear of torrents?

I can't for the life of me figure out how to set Plex up. Server is up. App is working fine. Media is unlocatable. Clicking any category does nothing. Clicking folders shows nothing. Shield shows my WD Passport is mounted as external. I have been at it for an hour now and I'm at whits end.

People using Plex (usually) pirate massive amounts of movies and TV shows onto their computer.

Note, I'm not saying everyone, but it's a lot of work to rip a substantial amount of high quality TV shows and movies to your computer.

I tried to use Plex for a while, but ripping home videos was taking way too long so I turned to Ultraviolet and VUDU instead.

Hard drives are pretty cheap. Content is everywhere. I use my library, Netflix dvd service, grab stuff from the clearance section at work and use sonarr/couchpotato.

I like plex because I am at no ones mercy to what content dealings they have in place. I got all my shit I like and just watch it whenever.

Edit: Also torrenting isn't that much of hassle. It does its thing while you're at work. You can get an app and add stuff remotely to it when you're out, and have other programs move stuff and rename. People are getting really good at pirating.

On top of what others say I have a setup where I rip Blu-ray discs to my file server using MakeMKV and I index those with Plex. I also have a TV tuner on my network and using something called HDhomerun DVR I record shows to the computer running Plex. Now I have access to recorded shows and movies from my shield and other mobile devices.

So unlike others on here I mostly use Plex legally. That said there is some pirated content on there and I share my Plex library with others.
