Shield TV just will not work with my external HDD

by wildfig

I have a NTFS Seagate 2TB USB Powered External HDD, loaded with content. Whenever I plug it into my Shield TV, it comes up as 'Seagate External Drive' in the Storage options, when I click it on it however it is always saying 'Calculating' and I am unable to use it. I have no clue how to fix this, anyone else?

Hmm, you went and tried exfat? It should work.

Just tried to format as Exfat and same problem.

If I remember correctly the Android File system doesn't support NTFS, so formatting the drive to exfat should work. This might be a dumb question but what app are you using to browse the files on the external drive?

Check the partition format in use on the drive. I don't believe the Shield supports GPT partitions. They must be MBR.

Last time I tried GPT formatted disks, it wouldn't read them at all.

Have you tried powering the device down, then inserting the HDD and power up? I had that issue as well I think
