Update on recent theory: Amazon Video is coming to Nvidia Shield

by Wiidesire

Here is a new source of an Amazon employee saying that the App is coming:

I would like to inform you Amazon video business team is currently working on providing service on NVIDIA SHIELD. We have been receiving numerous feedback up on this issue, and we have taken this issue as a top priority.

[...]

As our team is working constantly to provide Amazon video service on NVIDIA SHIELD, I humbly request you to show your kind patience.

Here is a Nvidia employee indirectly saying it's coming (translated from german):

To make it short, 2 people complain that Amazon Video is still not available on Shield even though it is working on Android TV already (Sony).

The employee answers that "they are continuously working on bringing the best and most famous Apps to Shield TV".

Then someone else says (paraphrased): "doesn't Amazon prevent a release?"

Employee then answers " A little more patience :)".

Big news. This would truly become the ultimate streaming box regardless of ecosystem if Amazon Prime comes.

Not Nexus Player then huh.

Why does licensing get so much more complicated when it's on a TV?

Cord-Cutting?

I would love it to come to Shield.I currently use the XDA method to play Prime on my Shield, which is nice but I think it only plays in 720p.

So a native app would make my day

This has been Amazon's statement for over a year now about porting the app to Android Tv. This is like Valve and Half Life 3. They are just saying something just to get people to back off for a couple months before they make the same statement again. Customer service reps don't know squat. They are in a completely different building if not state then anyone working on this and they have no information beyond what there supervisor gives them. There is no connection between anyone in that building and the developers working on Amazon Video. Amazon has made it very clear. They don't want people buying anything other than Fire Tv boxes to watch their content. Obviously they can easily port the Sony app over to the Sheild TV really easy but only Sony paid for it to be done so far. Amazon wont do it for free.

In the recent past, there were a lot of similar internet rumors about Amazon Video coming "soon" to Apple TV. After many months, it never happened.

Your theory just came to mind when I saw that the Shield TV was on sale for Prime Day. Considering they didn't sell the Nexus player or Apple TV, it's interesting that they are not only selling it but promoting the sale of it today.
