I am trying to finally completely cut the cord, but I am in an area where it is hard to pick up local channels via ota (mountains greatly affect the signal). I like the PS Vue channel selection, but I cannot cast them to the Shield (I am able to use the app however). It does work on my other Chromecast equipped televisions though. PS Vue doesn't include access to my local networks, however. Are there any other options to stream live network tv to our Shields?

NewsOn streams local news during broadcast all over the country so you might find your local NEWS broadcast but that's going to be it. Everything else that is going to be found online streamed will be some random city or just the online based content. I use the DirecTV app and Xfinity apps and get commercials from a whole different state. I would recommend investing in an outdoor antenna also.
Do your locals stream on the web? If so you could tab cast to the android TV or you could use something like PlayOn to get the content from a browser to the TV.
Sling TV has NBC and Fox in select areas.
