[Shield] Was there a video quality update for gamestream recently?

by skreak

I have a shield wired to my 1gb network and a GTX960 in my workstation. I pulled up Rocket League yesterday and holy crap the game played so much smoother than ever before. I read up on the HDR stuff but I don't have an HDR TV. I checked the quality settings and I have them locked at 1080p @ 60fps @ 30mbps (max). I can't remember if 60fps was a thing before or not.

Weird, as I've got the same setup as you and mine has suddenly got worse. Keep getting messages about the device processing the A/V stream too slowly. 😕

60fps has always been an option, at least in Moonlight anyway.

I noticed that while streaming my shield did started showing tips like "Hold down this button to force an exit". Its apparent that the shield hub app did get an update.

I noticed the same thing. Played Rocket League for the first time last night via gamestream on Shield TV and it ran smooth as butter. However, whenever I played COD games in the past, lag was very noticeable. I've yet to re-test those games.

Heads up, the bitrate (you set it to max, 30mbs) affects quality and latency. The higher it is, the better the image. The lower it is, the better the latency.

I'm watching ESL Csgo tournament on Gamestream and quality is perfect on 1080p60, im pleasantly surprised how good it's working, didn't use it before
