What to buy?

by Tom_w141

Hi the market seems absolutely saturated with the boxes so I could do with some help sorting the diamonds from the coal...

Budget of £40-60 tops. Not interested in gaming I have dedicated machines for that. I want to be able to stream HD well on kodi (Internet is quick enough). Also to be able to mount my NAS (it's a samba share from my torrent box rpi). My current setup is a pi running open elec but it just lacks the horsepower to keep up a lot of the time and buffers constantly (even from my samba share on local network). I'm told an octa core android tv is the way to go I just want to ensure I don't waste my money.

TLDR: want the meatiest box I can get for ~£50, kodi and ability to mount a NAS drive.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

None of these are AndroidTV proper. This sub isn't really meant for these knockoff boxes.

Well, first thing, there aren't really any Android TV boxes that fit in your price range. You could probably do one of those cheap Chinese AOSP boxes, but those are an entirely different animal, and most people here wouldn't really be able to help you with that.

Though, honestly, if the only thing you're interested in is Kodi, I don't know if you're going to find anything better than the Pi 3 in your price range. What revision of the Pi are you currently running?

Just stick with your Pi. It's the gold standard for kodi. Try OSMC install on a fast USB flashdrive, not sdcard.

BBmag

This is not really supported however, the raspi does have a version of ATV which you could install. You could also buy a cheap windows PC and install the x86 version of ATV as well.
