Apps!

by temppain

Hi all, At Google IO they mentioned that they were roling out new apps for Android TV. Among these were Comedy Central, the Disney/ABC Family, including all the Disney Channels and Watch ABC, & CNN. So far I've seen ESPN, Nick and MTV slowly rolled out. Is there a timeline on when the rest will get on board?

Also I was very dissappointed to hear NBC wouldn't be supported on Shield TV(except cast) for the Olympics.

Is this a case of the app developer not wanting to support it, the owners of the channels, or the Shield TV preventing the apps?

Nvidia wants the apps. They are in the business of making money by selling the Shield. Unless it's a game streaming app, the Nvidia is probably going to want it on its system.

I think it's the mixture of the App Developer and the owners of the channels honestly.

I don't think ABC/Disney or any of those channels gave a timeline. I keep my eyes peeled on the store every day.

At the same time, you can cast from Android devices to the shield or sideload the apks.

I've been watching Olympics with no issue. I get better choices on my app connected to my DirecTV account than I do on actual TV...
