Just bought Shield. What's my first steps

by _Straight_Answers_

I'll be setting up Kodi when I get home, and Retroarch for classic gaming.

But I'll have tons of learning to do. Any good suggestions?

Download the Sideloader app if you ever want to install regular android apps on it (by downloading the apk). I haven't tried too many but so far every app I've installed has run just fine (I have an air mouse remote for these apps but the shield controller emulates a mouse cursor with the right thumbstick). List of apps I've installed this way:

Chrome Browser

Cartoon Network App (live feed works really well)

Adult Swim App (live feed works really well)

AMC App

NBC Sports (olympic live feeds have worked really well)

a bunch of robert broglia emulators (retroarch did not like most of my usb controllers)

some apps will crash every now and then (not often at all though) but they work pretty well otherwise.

Check out /r/ShieldAndroidTV as well, as you can guess, it's focused solely on the Shield.

Consider looking up Arc Browser for a nicer frontend for retroarch

kodi and sling are my go to apps. nice cord cutter combo

I do not use my Nvidia Shield for games but as a central entertainment console for movies (Vudu, hulu, google play, netflix, etc) , music (google play) and tv (skynews, haystacktv france24, etc). I found Kodi frustrating so I do not use it anymore.
