Android TV questions

by mastil12345668

hey guys, are android TV already able to be fully independant from any other device except receiver ? able to play high rate media files 4K mkv or MP4 natively ? i guess with apps you should be able to connect through windows shared folders to play files, flawless netflix playback ?

could you guys give me some feedback, im thinking to buy one in order to replace my whole setup and leave just TV + Receiver.

Thanks

nvidia shield tv with kodi or plex can do that without any problems

Shield TV will do all of those things and more honestly.

So you want just the Sony TV + A/V receiver. Its possible, but not the greatest experience (laggy) or the most audio and video codecs (local files). I would check the specs/poke around on forums to see if all your files will be able to play back fine.

You do not need a receiver.

I have a Sony Android TV + Sony A/V Receiver (STR-DN1050). My TV is 1080p so it can't play 4K natively. I used to use Kodi and everything ran just fine. I've now switched to Plex (better UI/UX experience) and all is running just fine too.

I've also never had any audio latency issues either - whether the audio is playing through the TV speakers or the A/V speakers.

All in all, I recommended it.
