Netflix does support 5.1 audio any more.

by 6chan

I didn't quite notice when this stopped but i am certain that i saw an option for for 5.1 and 2 channel sound on Netflix on my Android TV. I don't get that anymore.

Nothing else in my setup has changed. Has anybody else noticed this? Do you know what the fix for this is?

###Solution

I was using optical out with the PCM setting. Optical can put out only 2 channel uncompressed audio.

Changing setting to Auto 2 got me the 5.1 settings back.

Thanks to /u/updawg and /u/mildlyconfuzzled !

I think it's just automatic now.. I definitely am getting 5.1 in my living room.

Just tested current Netflix build on Nvidia Shield TV (FW 3.2) connected to Denon AVR-X3200W via HDMI. DD+ (5.1) is bitstreamed to the AVR correctly.

Check your audio settings. Also, not all content has a 5.1 stream on Netflix, IIRC.

Still seeing it over here. What devices do you have?

Still there as an option and output on my Nexus Player. Did you check for Netflix app updates perhaps?

It does?

Wait, so, official Android TV no longer has surround sound?

Is this "official" Android TV (Nexus Player/Nvidia Shield) or one of the chinese knock-off boxes that use the Android tablet OS?
