Do non-kodi boxes exist?

by doomsknight

Basically, can you go online and by an android tv box, without it being full of Kodi applications pre-installed?

And secondly, is it cheaper? Or should i just buy one and remove the kodi content.

I am trying to find one, but all i get is Amazon or Ebay listings full to the teeth with Kodi apps. Half of the boxes are lesser imitations (M8S knockoffs)

And would being not pre-installed with nonsense, be cheaper to me?

This sub is not for discussion of these pirate boxes, but the actual "Android TV" OS and the devices that run it.

I don't recommend buying those Android boxes from no-name companies. Stick with legit OEMs like NVIDIA, ASUS, Xiaomi, Samsung, Sony, etc. (Razer is a good brand but they made a shitty Android TV device so don't even consider it)

As far as official Android TV devices, they're listed in the sidebar. One was a prototype, the other has been discontinued, the next one is super expensive, and the last one is utter trash.

Here's your 3 options for an Android TV device:

  • find a Nexus Player used or unopened on ebay, craigslist, garage sale, etc. (got mine brand new in box from Groupon for $40, which is a decent price)
  • buy a Shield TV, the best streaming device ever made for $180+
  • wait for the affordable Mi Box from Xiaomi to arrive later this year (sub-$100)

Stop looking at TV boxes running Android. Stop considering them based on the price and the specs. Just stop. Those boxes are the "swag scooter hoverboards" of home theater.
