Unable To Check For System Updates?

by FoferJ

On this new Sony Bravia XBR65X850D running Android TV 6.0.1, I go to Settings -> About -> System Update -> Check for a system update...

...and it searches forever. For hours and hours. I ultimately have to cancel out. I know it's a new set, already running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, and doesn't have a pending update (yet) but it's weird that the UI doesn't simply report that. Why does it keep searching without giving up after a certain amount of time? This same behavior happens even after a complete Factory data reset. And I know my network connection is solid and strong; every other app and streaming service working fine.

And so I ask: anyone else with the X750D (or X700D or X800D,) are you experiencing the same? Is there some other "trick" to get Android TV to successfully check for updates, even when one might not be pending?

I had the same issue with my Nexus player. It turned out the system time was set to manual and was not correct. Try changing that.

I have an X800D and it seems that it does exactly as you described. Searches forever. This is definitely not the behavior of my Shield TVs, which check for updates in a matter of seconds.

Elsewhere, I was directed to this page, with the PKG6.0306.0001NAA firmware for download/manual install. It appears it came out on 8/09/2016. My new set, purchased last week, is still on PKG6.0211.0001NAA. So it appears I'll be manually updating after all. The "search for software updates" mechanism built into this set is just broken. Hopefully this new update fixes that (and more.)

I'm having this problem with my x700D and it's driving me insane, guess I'll have to buy a thumb drive.
