New to Android TV - The hype is real

by Vulvaavenger

So I bought my parents this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-75-class-74-5-diag-led-2160p-smart-4k-ultra-hd-tv-with-high-dynamic-range-black/4804404.p?id=1219825175607&skuId=4804404

I had no idea that it was Android TV enabled. In fact, I probably wouldn't have purchased it had I known, because I wanted to get them a "dumb" TV so I wouldn't have to do tech support for them all the time. Also, as much as I love Android, I really haven't heard anything THAT great about Android TV. Holy shit I'm glad I was wrong. I've used Apple TV and hated it. I have several Chromecasts and love them, but this is on a whole different level. Voice control isn't shit. The system is fast, intuitive, and beautiful. I love it and I can't wait to get one for myself. Sorry if I come off as "hail corporate" or whatever, but I'm just so fucking thrilled that this tech is actually good. I can't wait to comb through this sub to find good tips and tricks.

I've heard nothing but great things about Android TV.

I have heard horror stories about boxes running Android though. I think people get the two confused because any back alley company can put together a streaming box and nab a copy of Android but only certain OEMs like NVIDIA, ASUS, Sony, etc. make devices that run the Android TV platform.

Tizen actually impressed me on my new TV. I was expecting a complete shitshow, though, so my expectations were extremely low.

Agreed. Android TV is great. I was vacillating between that or Tizen and I'm so glad I went with Android.

I think the most amazing part of this is that it only costs $22 a year to run a TV that large.

You should buy a Nexus for your TV.... oops sorry.
