I bought Anomaly 2 a while back while it was on sale, recently it became available through the Shield TV Google Play Store. Naturally I downloaded it and it plays great with controller support. But for some reason it doesn't show up on the Leanback Launcher.
Google play is inconsistent, because I own Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 and can install them remotely with a pc browser Play Store AND they show up on the Leanback Launcher but they are totally invisible on the Android TV Play app. Searches don't even turn anything up.
Why aren't these kinks ironed out at this point?
play store app on atv is restricted to 'vetted' apps (dev's have to submit it for tv specifically, manually reviewed, etc.)
play store web is just checking the app manifest requirements vs the device spec (build.prop etc)
apps only show in leanback ui if they have been built for it, regardless of how they are acquired.
there are various ways to launch apps that don't show up in the leanback launcher, but it is much more likely that the were not designed for tv (landscape only, dpad input, etc), so the usability may vary.
Goog could handle the atv store app differently (ie: show all apps that are compatible, manifest-vise), but they chose to have a more curated storefront on the device.
+1 searching the store is still pretty crappy. (and ironic)
no comment on anomaly2 specifically.
