So, here's my question, how excited is the community about the Xiaomi Mi box at this point? Between the time from the announcement and delivery that has passed, and the light handedness Google has seemingly taken supporting AndroidTV (and AndroidAuto, IMO), is this something people are really excited to try out?

I ask partly because I view these things as mainly two purpose - gaming, and media. The media part I feel like can be handled by even the older Nexus Player without too much trouble. Even a basic Chromecast can largely bridge the media playback gap between devices (not completely, but pretty good for many uses).

Gaming still seems like something that's never going to fully come to maturity at this rate. Though, besides 4K playback, it's really the part that benefits the most from updated hardware at this point.

What makes you most excited about this particular unit? And I'm not asking to be a Negative Nancy. I'm somewhat considering getting one if they work out, to dump my Razer ForgeTV for, because I just like the idea of something more powerful than a Chromecast, but not as big and power hungry as an HTPC hooked up to my home theater.

I'll want to wait to see if the DVR and live tv function they talked about at the IO event this set top got announced at ever sees the light of day. I know you can do that all with a HD Homerun device currently but that more equipment to buy

Xiaomi’s Android set-top box to launch as soon as October for less than $100 https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/06/xiaomi-mi-box-launch/

I heard October. Are we sure this is the model that is coming to the U.S.? Cuz Xiaomi has been making Mi Boxes for a while now. There's a lot of different versions on the market.

That's boilerplate text from Geekbuying, always says 'next week' regardless if its a presale or current product that happens to be out of stock.

Don't bet the rent on getting shipped anytime before 9-15 which I suggest is the official launch date. Coincides with traditional Chinese holiday to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.
