AndroidTV on Sony Not Even in 4K?

by akermay

Hi

I bought a Sony KD-49X8305C recently, notably 4K. Its an Android TV but litterally everything seems to run at 1080. When you view the home or any apps you can see from the text and icons that its not displaying at 4K.

Is it possible to change this? I was hoping at least Netflix, Prime or YouTube would display 4K...

Any help or tips much appreciated, thanks.

Not every content out there is in 4k. To get 4k contents from Netflix you need [premium plan] ( https://www.netflix.com/ChangePlan ). Amazon has some 4k content. You can find some 4k videos on youtube or try playing your local media/

Check out the "Around the World 4k" YouTube page. Pause the video and select the "HQ" icon - there should be an option for 2160p, which is 4k.

It's also possible that your Internet connection isn't fast enough to stream 4k so all of the video services are automatically picking a lower resolution.

As I recall the UI didn't support 4K until 6.0 but movie content should still support 4K.

I have a similar TV.

The YouTube app has 4K content. When watching a 4K video, press down on the remote, go right to the "change quality" button and select the max "2160@30" or "2160@60" resolutions.

Now the problem I'm having is this: When trying to play the video below at 4K@60, it buffers forever and pauses while the sound continues. I have no problem with 4K@30 videos, just the ones that are 60fps.

Is it because I'm on Wi-Fi? Should I change to a wired connection?

Example 4K videos:

2160@30: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1hBNALUk4w

If someone could help me It would be cool.

Slightly off-topic, but how's your experience been with the TV so far? I'm interested in purchasing the 43" model but have been reading mixed reviews. Was curious myself if the Android TV UI was rendered in 4k - seems a shame if not, but certainly not a deal-breaker.
