Can you control Google Play music while in game?

Question

Hello there. I like to listen to music using Google Play music while playing video games on the Shield TV. However, I don't know of a way to skip songs or change the radio station without exiting the game first and opening the music app. Is there a way to control Play music via phone or the controller to skip songs?

I use a wireless kB/m that has media buttons including skip forwards. Recently though skate board party 3 killed any background music and played it's own soundtrack so I hope that doesn't become a trend.

To add on top of the keyboard idea: I have droidmote installed on my phone and it has media playback controls as one of the remotes. Works perfectly when I have a game or visuals playing with music behind it.

Wow. I never tried this. Does it work with Game Stream or GeForce Now at all?
