Nougat ruined my Nexus Player, should I sideload a ROM?

by Sheikboy_

Hi All,

Ever since the Nougat update on my Nexus Player every single app crashes (Netflix in particular), the whole thing is slow to the point of being barely usable and even casting has been shoddy.

I know I can go into settings and clear cache and data for the crashing apps, but essentially I shouldn't have to do that every time. Will sideloading a ROM like the Pure Nexus ROM fix this?

Make sure apps are up to date in the Play Store. I've had issues updating to new versions only to realize that the Play Store hadn't kicked in with auto-updates yet.

Reset to factory see if that fixed ir

After you've tried factory resetting and making sure all software updates have completed, maybe try rolling back to Marshmallow. It's a Nexus device, so it was made for flashing factory images.

There's quite a few complaints over at /r/NexusPlayer about the Nougat update... many people suggest downgrading back to Android M. So if all else fails, you may want to consider going back to Marshmallow. Hope that helps!
