I'm not like an expert on codecs, but it works fine. I'm pretty sure all my stuff is MPEG4/h264 encoded. They all work with direct play.
Then Live Channels with my HDHomeRun is decoding MPEG2.
It uses an S905X-H chip. The -H means that that the licences for Dolby have been paid for. It will play everything that the S905-X will play, pending on if the software will recognize the playback support capabilities of the chip.

If it makes you feel better, I tried 3 stores in DFW, 2 in Houston, and now one in Nashville. No such luck.
One store said every walmart is set to receive 3, but delivery dates and sales dates are unclear. He called the DFW distributor who told him they're scheduled for delivery October 3rd.
So, that's something.
