Xiaomi Mi Box Video Playback Test 1080p And 4k With Nvidia Shield Tv Comparison

Could these performance issues just be a function of the fact that the box likely doesn't have final software on it? I'm assuming there will be a Day 1 software update. Hopefully that would fix these issues.

Also need to note the mi box's USB port is 2.0 while the shield has 3.0. in theory 2.0 should have enough bandwidth but it isn't apples to apples.

Is it because the Mi Box usb 2.0 and the Shield is 3.0? Would that have any effect for transfer rates?

I'm interested in seeing how it handles media streamed from a file server. I think a lot of us have home servers and are not using USB media to play our files

I tested this with the BBB sample on my Mi Box hooked up to my 4K TV. It had issues with 60FPS, but not nearly like the video showed. It was about 45FPS.

That was with the file directly on my Mi Box. It worked better with VLC than Kodi.

Edit: Worked perfect from my Plex server, but it had to be transcoded. Reason: Device cannot play 4K video at 60 FPS.

Hmm.. Wonder why hevc playback was not using the GPU to decode in Kodi. The chipset does support it, correct? Did you have acceleration enabled in Kodi? Should be by default though. This could be a deal breaker for me.

This worries me, is this a good device, or will it disappoint elsewhere as well?

For someone like me who is looking to get his first Android TV to use as a media center, who does not have a 4k screen (so no 4k content) and does not game a whole lot (most gaming done on Xbox), would the Mi Box still be a good choice?

I'm trying to keep the cost low, but if I am going to be frustrated with the Mi Box's performance, I'd rather go for a Shield and dish out the extra money.
