Will Nvidia Shield Android TV See Android 7 Update?

by Balderick

There are some great VR devices on the way to market like Gameface Labs's head mounted console with NVidia tegra superchips on board.

I would love to see better android support by osvr software so I could use a hdk (or any other hmd) on NVidia shield android tv to easily access webvr googlevr and mobile game content (games for shield in play store) as well as steamvr content all on one device.

Do you know of anything that would indicate an incoming nougat update with full googlevr support to NVidia shield android tv?

I have not seen any proof that it will but to me it just makes sense. The hardware is not end of life and even of a shield 2 comes out the first one should still be in the realm of update support.

I believe they have stated that yes, it will be updated. I don't see why it wouldn't be. Nvidia's been on top of this device like few other Device Manufacturers have in regards to Android Updates.

The daydream spec is for phones but that doesn't necessarily preclude them from adding an android tv VR spec just that doesn't seem like what's getting focused on right now (and won't for a while, they're restricting their VR partners until at least early next year). On the other topic I would definitely hope that the shield gets nougat; curious how long that'll take. (are there any nougat ATV's now? nexus player perhaps?) Personally I'm holding off buying a shield until hopefully they release an updated one; for my main TV; going to get a Mi Box for my smaller less used bedroom tv I think.
