Nexus Player can't browse to external drive from emulators?

by star_jump

Hello, I own a Nexus Player, and I used to use it primarily to play with emulators. I have all of my games loaded on a thumb drive which I connect via an OTG cable. This setup used to work just fine for me. I haven't used the device in well over a month, but I decided to sit down and play with it again. However, to my surprise, neither SNES9X EX or MAME4ALL will allow me to browse to my thumb drive anymore. When I try to browse anywhere other than /storage/emulated/0, I get a permission denied error. I didn't change anything, so I have no idea why it stopped working. Can anyone please help me? Thank you.

Same thing happened to me, no idea why it's doing that

There are certain restrictions around how external media is handled. Basically they aren't seen as an ordinary file, so the file browser needs to handle those cases specifically. Since the app isn't designed to support these external drives, and the document picker isn't available on TV, you're in a tough spot.
