Youtube Live videos quality horrible on Shield Andoird TV

by mforce22

Does anyone else has the issue on youtube live videos where the quality is just horrible? I tried changing the quality up to 720p or 1080p but ti stays at like 240p or 360p quality. I know is my Shield Android TV because I tried at the same time in my phone and tablet and they all worked with 1080p.

I've never actually watched live videos on YouTube, but I just tested it out after reading your post and it seems you're right.

This looks like a bug. Unless someone knows a setting we're missing.

I found a live video and it automatically started playing in 240p.
I played the same video on my desktop side by side and it was playing fine in 720p (the max of the live stream I was watching).

Even after going down to the "HQ" button and changing it to 720p, nothing changed. I tried changing it to "Auto" and it still stayed at 240p.
Stopping the video and restarting in hopes it remembered my quality setting didn't work either. It just stays at 240p.

Every other non-live YouTube video plays perfectly in HD, so something isn't right.

BTW, the random live video I tested was called "Dreamforce 2016 Live Broadcast". So if anyone wants to test themselves, just do a voice search for that and it will pop up right away.

It worked fine for me last week. Perhaps it's the streaming quality. YouTube is probably ignoring your preferences and trying to automatically pick the optimal quality.

Same problem here with a Sony Bravia. If I use the YT App, the quality stays at 240p, no matter what. If I cast the same Video from the Mobile to the TV, everything is fine.

watched last week's debate and watching tonights on the NBC stream. 1080p no problems

Same issue here. The stream starts on 240p or 360p even though normal videos run on 1080p effortlessly. I can change it in the options but the video stays the same quality. Casting from mobile or PC makes it possible to watch livestreams in 1080p.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? Reports of this issue are very limited...

Same problem for me. Casting the same stream from another device works fine...
