Android TV apps in Canada

by hydraSlav

Is anyone here from Canada that runs Android TV? Most of the apps that I see on the homescreen of Android TV (from screenshots/reviews) like HBO, Hulu, etc are probably geo-blocked outside of US.

So for someone in Canada, would any of that content work?

Those apps won't be on the Canadian version of the devices.

If you have TMN (which has HBO Canada in certain regions) you can sideload the TMNGo app and use it with a mouse (I do this on my Nexus Player). If the major Canadian networks' apps work on it, they will be sideloaded and likely used with a mouse.

There are also other Internet focused things like YouTube and Pluto.TV and Netflix that are available through the play store for it that use the remote. Plex and Kodi are available as well.

They are indeed geo-blocked, but you can always sideload those APKs from apkmirror. If you have a DNS or VPN service, you can access content.

Just adding that if you sideload apps not made for Android TV, besides the mouse that rovaals suggested, you also need to install an app like "Set Orientation" to permanently set your orientation to landscape (unless you like watching things sideways :P )
