Mi Box rant - implement fucking HDMI-CEC to turn my TV off when I put the box to sleep

by GarageBattle

What year is it [current year]? Why do I need two remotes to use my TV? My current gen Apple TV wakes my TV and puts it to sleep - why cant the Mi Box do this?

That was a huge reason I returned my Shield TV - HDMI-CEC is a standard - there is a white paper on how the technology works/how to implement it, not following it absolutely unacceptable at this point. The Mi Box turns the TV on if its off, why cant it turn it off (optionally) when I put the box to sleep?

Can someone forward this along to Hugo Boss or whoever the guy is who is the america face for the company.

The nvidia android tv now turns off the tv with HDMI-CEC. It as in one of the first few firmware updates.

just wanted to say i'm still having this problem. TV turns on fine, but will not turn off if it's set to suspend/resume. If i change the power setting to "turn off" instead of "suspend/resume" and i hit the power key on the remote, it just gives me a singe option of "reboot". Such a small thing ruining the experience.

Shield TV's CEC settings only has two settings that you can change.

  • Turn TV on when device power on
  • Turn TV off when device goes to sleep

Maybe the Mi Box does have this option, you just don't know how to find it.

isnt cec hardware based? would seem really odd to have it but not active.

Seems even more odd to just not have it

It could be your TV. I can't speak for the Mi Box but my Shield CEC wouldn't power off my 2015 Vizio when putting the device into sleep mode.

Vizio pushed out a firmware update this week and after you do a CEC device scan through the TV, the Shield can now power the TV off.

In contrast, my 2015 Sony TV that I've had for a year has never had a problem turning the TV on/off when the Shield goes to sleep.

Hope that helps.

My Mi box won't turn off my Samsung TV either. However turning off the TV puts the Mi box to sleep. (edit) I later tested a Sony TV and the same thing occurs.

It might be coming. It hasn't been officially released yet and is still running marshmellow. I'd hold off on complaints until we see if they have a release day firmware update.
